The Holy Grail for Narcotics Addicts? The substitution of Methadone for Heroin, Morphine, and other Opiates, is a well understood and effective treatment for the acute stages of the Narcotics Abstinence Syndrome. The big problem comes after the acute phase when craving for the narcotic causes most patients to relapse. Until now, the only alternative to relapse after relapse has been Methadone Maintenance for life. Only about 1-5% of addicts are able to stay off of methadone or other narcotics. The Zoloft, Kava, Valerian/Passion Flower, mixture has been effective in stopping the craving for narcotics and this will be the Holy Grail for treatment of addiction to these drugs if double blind studies verify these findings.
